Random Thoughts 01-02-09
by Andyb0y on Jan.02, 2009, under Personal
Well it’s the new year and I still didn’t blog as much as I wanted to. This year will hopefully be different. I really want to write and interact with the web more since its a fun experience. This year I will make more of an effort….I hope
I just found out that my cousin works at a game company designing games so I hope that I can talk her into getting me some game related items/collectibles. Also some previews like the big podcasts get so I can at least have a better chance of getting more listeners for my show Handheld Heroes.
Speaking of the show, we at the show got our 1st hate mail. Apparently we use the word ‘fuck’ too much and it makes us sound like we are trying to be edgy. Well, I think the guy has a point to a certain extent. We don’t curse to be edgy, we do it cause when we are mad at something it just comes out that way. Handheld Heroes is a raw show and we hold nothing back. I will however start to refrain from using such words a lot in that I would like people to continue to the show. If it happens, it happens but I will keep it in mind to rephrase or replace words when I can. I am not a neanderthal. I know more words than the 7 you can’t say on T.V.
I hope the new year is kind to everyone and let’s do our best to make 2009 better than 2008.
Random thoughts 12-13-08…

Another boring OT weekend at work. Thankfully I have podcasts to keep me company. I am listening to Net @ Night (twit.tv) Episode 77 with Leo Laporte and Amber MacArthur. They were discussing how Pownce is closing down and where there are viable options for replacing that service. They ended up discussing what one would need to be apart of the Social Networking world without signing up for tons of services.
They mentioned Friendfeed, Twitter, and a Blog as the main 3. I agree to a point. Friendfeed is a great way to get all of your content in on place for people who want to follow your exploits in the world. It works well for getting comments back from other people and having it all in one place. Twitter is great for micro-blogging little things during the day when you are away from a computer. We all know the best things in our lives happen when we are without a computer or camera. Twitter is a perfect way to do this since its easy to tweet from your cellphone (although Verizon has a problem with tweets from text messages). A blog is a good way to write up a long post of something that interests you or you think it might be something people will enjoy.
The hardest part when starting out (I still am) is getting followers to your content. The best way from what I have read from so many of the biggest bloggers in the world like Robert Scoble is that you must participate in others content. You can do as little as just 1 sentence to respond to someone’s content and that would be enough.
I would link to all the things and people I talked about in this post but doing this from a work PC and IE6 is not playing nice with wordpress.
Hudson Hawk = EPIC!!!!!!
by Andyb0y on Nov.30, 2008, under Personal
Seems as though I am on a Bruce Willis kick. I decided to check out Hudson Hawk on Netflix streaming to my Xbox 360. This movie is pure genius. A great tongue in cheek movie with some decent action scenes. I guess I am a fool for not seeing this sooner.
Do yourself a favor and rent this movie if you haven’t seen it. You will be entertained for sure.
Die Hard 4
by Andyb0y on Nov.25, 2008, under Personal
Best of the bunch I have to say. Still a little grainy but not as bad as the other 3 Die Hard movies. What sucks is that Netflix sent me the rated version of Die Hard 4. The unrated version is the only way to watch this movie. The rated version chops it up so much you don’t get the feeling John McLane is the bad ass cop he was in all the other movies.
I won’t be watching Blu-Ray movies for maybe a month since my monitor I had the PS3 hooked up to is being repaired. So I will switch to video games for awhile.
Later on this week I will say my piece on MK vs DC Universe
Die Hard Movie update…..
by Andyb0y on Nov.06, 2008, under Personal
Just watched Die Hard 3 and it was worse than I remember. This use to be my favorite of the bunch but for some reason, it doesn’t hold up anymore. As far as the quality of the Blu-Ray version goes, it was grainy just like the other 2. I guess all the master copies they used to make the Blu-Ray editions of these movies was not in the highest of quality therefore the transfer was not perfect.
I should get Die Hard 4 tomorrow and I hope that it turns out non-grainy. I would hate for Fox to mess up a great movie series with bad transfers. Not that they are unwatchable on Blu-Ray, just that I expected more for HD.
Older movies on Blu-Ray
by Andyb0y on Nov.03, 2008, under Personal
I recently got a PS3 and have been taking advantage of the Blu-Ray player in it to watch some older movies that are now on Blu-Ray. I am starting with the Die Hard series. So far, the first 2 movies are a little grainy but the colors are bright and pretty. I am going to watch the 3rd movie in the next week and hopefully its not as grainy as the last 2. Any suggestions on what older movies I should tackle after the Die Hard movies?
I forgot…
by Andyb0y on Nov.03, 2008, under Personal
I can’t believe I forgot I had a blog here. I was too busy with handheldheroes.net that I neglected my blog. Not that anyone reads it but still. I need to start using my Blackberry to help keep me in order since I have a terrible memory (which I was reminded of tonight, kinda ironic).
The Dark Knight thoughts…
by Andyb0y on Jul.20, 2008, under Personal
So I ventured to a 10:30am showing of the Dark Knight today and I was blown away. This has to be THE best comic book movie beating out Iron Man on my list. The story was well done and flowed very well. The set design was equally awesome.
Heath Ledger shined in his role as The Joker. I mean, if he was not The Joker, the movie would have been an average flick. He really pulled off the sadistic, psychopathic killer from the comics. Although Tim Burton’s Batman had more style, Chris Nolan’s version is more true to the comics.
I felt that all the side characters like Luscious Fox and Alfred were under utilized. I also felt like there were 2 stories in this movie and near the end it got kinda weak.
One last thing, Christian Bale’s Batman voice was terrible in this movie. It sounded like he had a sore throat or something stuck in it.
All in all, it’s a movie you must see in theaters. Heath Ledger has the best performance in a movie EVAR!!!! He really owned that role.
E3 wrap up show

C4 from GAMERadio, RubbaD and Jermo from Button Mashers and Ribo, DDMNeo and yours truly from Handheld Heroes had a round table discussion on the 3 major conferences put on by Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. It was an amazing time and although some of us fell asleep, it was a very good discussion. Mind you, the recording was started at 12am so it was LATE. I hope we, the gamer community, get together again and do more of these round tables.
Time for me to take the rest of the day and relax. Mandatory overtime at my job is killing me.
Happy Birthday to me!!!!

So I should have been at work today but I decided to have some me time and call out sick. I did absolutely nothing…and it felt good. I did think about how I lost touch with my tech side and I need to get back into doing projects and just plain old tinkering. I am losing my touch when it comes to tech knowledge.
I need to be more active again in the social networking of the interwebs as well.
